Try, my daughter
Try, my daughter, to fill the cells of your heart with beats of happiness,
and your eyes with butterflies of hope, with the pride of a mother.
To weave dreams like braids in the cradle where freedom rocks.
Try, daughter, to strengthen the sturdy muscles of this life,
to carry the entire sky upon them clouds, downpours, and storms
and never fall into the lake of loneliness.
Try, daughter, to walk beside the sun,
to feel the burning heat of love,
but never to burn from it.
Try to fill the moon with the light of your eyes,
for there, daughter, are my eyes too.
There shines a piece of my soul that raised you with galloping steps,
so that today you illuminate and give wings to your mother’s heart.
Try, daughter, never to forget that fragile smile
which, when spoken from your lips, brings me to life.
You are the one who renews it for me every moment.
Try, daughter, to shape life even when it gets scratched
or breaks like crystal
with the claws of love, and resurrect it on the shore of peace.
Try, my daughter, to love the unseen as well,
seeking distant angels of kindness,
and I will be a warm hand among them,
a warm shawl of love.
