Argentina’s head coach, Lionel Scaloni, has stated that it will be Lionel Messi himself who will decide whether he wants to take part in the 2026 World Cup.
Messi has questioned his participation in this World Cup, although he has said that the desire is there.
“I have met Messi, I live very close to his home. Regarding the World Cup, we will see later. We have talked about many things, but not about that part because there is still time. We shouldn’t put pressure on him; let him stay calm and he will decide. Then we will see what is best based on that decision. Those of us who know him understand that he will never truly be calm. He was born a competitor — he wants to win, he wants to play, he always wants to be there. This is very important, especially for his teammates, who see the captain behave like that and always want to play for the national team,” said the coach who won the World Cup with Argentina in 2022.
With Argentina, Messi is currently the reigning world champion, having defeated Mbappé’s France in the final of the 2022 World Cup.
