Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent has revealed that the Italian goalkeeper has postponed his wedding because of the World Cup, while also immediately forming close relationships with Erling Haaland and Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
The “Azzurri” have failed to qualify for the last two World Cup editions and still do not know whether they will take part in the 2026 tournament in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
They will have to go through the play-offs, facing Northern Ireland and then either Wales or Bosnia and Herzegovina in March, but Donnarumma believes the team will be there in the summer.
“He was planning to get married this summer, but he postponed everything due to his international commitments with Italy,” agent Enzo Raiola told Italy’s Radio Sportiva.
“He cares deeply about the World Cup, asked to stay focused, and is thinking only about his club and Italy, because he wants to go to this tournament with all his heart,” he added.
This has been a special year for Donnarumma, who won practically everything with Paris Saint-Germain, before leaving in the final months of his contract and joining Manchester City.
“It was an intense summer considering what happened in Paris. Maybe one day they will explain to us what happened and why they assessed things that way, but today we are enjoying his time at Manchester City,” Raiola added.
“Since Gigio arrived, things have improved in terms of results, and now they are once again challenging Arsenal at the top of the table. The first six months have gone well, and both he and the club are satisfied,” he continued.
Donnarumma has developed a special bond with his Manchester City teammate Haaland, with whom he is often seen joking on social media and on the pitch.
“From the very first day he formed a connection with him, but they were both part of our agency before, so they had already met,” Raiola pointed out.
“They have very similar personalities. They are two great guys, and that is the key element. Guardiola is also one of the best coaches in modern football, which is why he has strong people skills and knows how to manage players,” he concluded.
