Barcelona midfielder Fermín López has confirmed that he is very close to signing a new contract with the Catalan club, stating that his priority has always been to play for the Blaugrana.
A few months ago, during the final weeks of the transfer window, the young Spanish player was linked with a move to Chelsea.
Now, he is close to renewing his contract with Barcelona. Fermín is set to extend his deal as one of the key pillars of Hansi Flick’s team.
“I wanted to stay at Barça; that was always my priority. I had a very good summer,” López told Mundo Deportivo. “I’ve improved a lot compared to last year; I’ve grown,” he added.
“It feels great to help the team with goals and assists. I don’t set a specific target, but I know that in the position I play, I need to score and provide assists to be useful for the team. I’m very happy and I hope there will be many more.”
“Yes, things are going quite well. There are still a few details to sort out, but I intend to stay at Barça for a long time, which is the most important thing for me. Honestly, I hope it happens soon. I’m very happy,” he said regarding his new contract.
