Liverpool continued their positive run in the Premier League, defeating Wolves 2-1 at home thanks to a decisive goal from Florian Wirtz, who scored for the first time in a Reds shirt.
Wirtz doubled Liverpool’s lead after Ryan Gravenberch opened the scoring in the first half, while Wolves responded with a goal from Santiago Bueno from a set-piece early in the second half. However, Liverpool managed to maintain the advantage and secured their fourth consecutive win in all competitions.
After the match, Wirtz expressed his happiness for his first goal:
“It was a really nice feeling to be on the pitch with the fans all around. I’m very happy and I still feel that way,” said the midfielder.
“I was sure that one day I would score. I wanted to start earlier with goals and assists, but it happened like this and I have to accept it. I just know it will come, and I continue to work hard.”
Wirtz also commented on the team’s performance:
“We played a fantastic first half. We lost the game and recovered it. Everyone worked very hard. In the last 20 minutes, we made it a bit difficult for ourselves. I can’t explain why. We need to change that.”
Liverpool look determined to fight for the top spots, and Wirtz is expected to play a key role in the team’s season objectives.
