Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has heaped praise on Erling Haaland, describing him as the best striker in the world, although he did not confirm whether the Norwegian will start in the big clash against Liverpool.
Haaland is going through an unusual spell by his own standards, having scored just two goals in his last twelve appearances. For this reason, Guardiola left him on the bench in the 3–1 victory over Newcastle in the League Cup. However, the Spanish coach made it clear that his confidence in the striker remains unchanged.
“I still don’t know if he will start, but one thing is certain: Erling is the best striker in the world,” Guardiola stated.
Haaland’s dip in form has also been reflected in Manchester City’s results, with the team currently sitting six points behind Arsenal in the Premier League title race. Nevertheless, Haaland remains City’s main attacking figure and one of the most dangerous players in world football.
Guardiola also avoided questions about his own future at the club, reminding that he has a contract valid until June 2027.
In the context of his comments on the Israel–Palestine conflict, he reiterated his stance on global conflicts, stressing that he condemns all of them and that, as a human being, he has the right to express empathy for human suffering.
