The Iraq national team will play in the World Cup for the first time in 40 years.
The historic success came after a dramatic 2–1 victory over Bolivia in the intercontinental play-off final, held in Mexico.
Iraq’s only previous appearance in the World Cup was in Mexico in 1986, where they lost all three group-stage matches.
Iraq secured its place in Group I, where it will face France, Norway, and Senegal at the 2026 World Cup.
