Paolo Di Canio has renewed his criticism of Rafael Leão, claiming that AC Milan performs better without him on the field.
Leão is going through a difficult period, marked by inconsistent performances, injury issues, and tensions within the squad, including a recent disagreement with Christian Pulisic. Additionally, speculation surrounding his contract has increased uncertainty about his future.
Speaking at the “Legends Trophy” event, Di Canio emphasized that Milan has performed better without the Portuguese forward.
“Without him, Milan scores more goals and looks more solid: 21 goals in eight matches without Leão. Will he get angry? I don’t care. He’s not my brother or cousin,” he said.
The former Italian striker also questioned Leão’s overall contribution beyond scoring goals, suggesting that he benefits from the style of defending in Serie A.
“He scores more while playing less like a striker because in Italy it’s easier. Defenses are not that strong, so he always finds a moment. The problem is what he offers during the match beyond the goal,” he added.
