Julián Álvarez becomes the fifth-best Argentine goalscorer in Champions League history

Atlético Madrid’s 26-year-old striker, Julián Álvarez, scored his 24th career goal in the Champions League during a crucial 2–0 away victory against Barcelona in the quarterfinals of the 2025/26 season.

Álvarez opened the scoring with a शानदार free-kick, carving his name into the history of Argentine stars in Europe’s elite competition. With 24 goals (16 for Atlético and 8 for Manchester City), Álvarez has now moved into fifth place among all Argentine players in the tournament’s history.

While he shares this milestone with Gonzalo Higuaín and Ángel Di María, he reached this tally in far fewer matches.

Only four Argentinians have scored more in this competition: Lionel Messi (129 goals), Sergio Agüero (41 goals), Hernán Crespo (25 goals), and Lautaro Martínez (25 goals).

Álvarez has also strengthened his place in Atlético’s history, currently ranking as the club’s second-highest goalscorer in the competition, behind only Antoine Griezmann.
