Neymar has successfully undergone knee surgery, his club Santos announced on Monday, as the Brazilian star aims to return to full fitness and secure a place with Brazil for next year’s World Cup.
The 33-year-old returned in January to his boyhood club Santos and has played a major role in helping the team survive in Brazil’s top flight. Despite playing through pain, he has featured and scored five goals in his last four matches.
Santos confirmed that the surgery was performed by Brazil national team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar.
“The surgery was successful and the player is in good condition,” the statement said.
The club did not provide a precise timetable for Neymar’s return, but Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte reported that the recovery could take up to a month.
Neymar, Brazil’s all-time leading goalscorer with 79 goals, has not played for the national team since 2023 due to a series of injuries.
