BallinaVitrina e libritPoem by Ligor Stafa

Poem by Ligor Stafa

A WOMAN IN THE MIRROR
“Why,” she asks, “have time and the unadorned buildings
Fallen prostrate?”

Little by little, the corrosive silence breaks,
As silence does after breathing on glass.
The double, wearing a nightgown,
Demands loudly
The thief of women and the judges
.
She can no longer be a stooped statue,
A figure with broken arms, a form
With a void in the center.
She is temptation, madness itself,
The true embodiment of both temptation and madness.

With her hair disheveled, this fevered evening
Groans in such a way
That the perfume of hidden desires
Spreads like a melody on the ship’s mast.

“Why,” she asks, “are the thieves of women and the judges
Delaying so much?”
