Former legendary Rio Ferdinand, a well-known analyst, has lavished praise on Barcelona’s rising star Lamine Yamal, describing him as one of the main reasons why football continues to feel magical.
In a statement that has gained significant attention on social media and in sports media, Ferdinand emphasized that Yamal brings back the pure emotions of the game, comparing him to some of the most creative icons in football history such as Diego Maradona, Juan Román Riquelme, and Juan Sebastián Verón.
“Lamine Yamal makes me fall in love with football again. Players like him remind you why we fell in love with this sport in the first place. Maradona, Riquelme, Verón – people who took on opponents, took risks, and did crazy things on the pitch,” Ferdinand said.
However, his praise for the young Spanish talent does not stop at the sporting level. Ferdinand also highlighted Yamal’s courage and maturity off the field, praising him for his stance against racism and discrimination.
According to him, what makes the 18-year-old even more special is the fact that he is using his voice for important social issues, including speaking out against anti-Muslim chants in stadiums.
“He is more than a footballer. This is a young man who speaks up. An 18-year-old who takes the risk and says: ‘I do not support this, this is racism, and people need to know it,’” Ferdinand added.
