Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso responded to Diego Simeone’s comments regarding winger Vinicius Junior during the Spanish Super Cup semifinal against Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid defeated Atletico Madrid 2–1 in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal, securing a place in the final, where they will face their bitter rivals Barcelona in an El Clasico that is worth a trophy.
However, from the very first minute the match was filled with tension and rivalry, one of the main flashpoints being the confrontation between Los Blancos star Vinicius Jr and Los Colchoneros coach Diego Simeone.
According to COPE, the Argentine coach told the Brazilian: “Florentino Perez will get rid of you, remember my words.”
After the match, Xabi Alonso commented on the incident between Vinicius and Simeone on the bench during the press conference, placing the blame on the Argentine.
“I didn’t like that moment. Cholo said something to him, and these things go against the spirit you should have toward fellow professionals.”
“I don’t like it when players are spoken to in that way. Not everything is acceptable,” Alonso said.
