Arsenal continue to chase Manchester City in the Premier League title race, while Manchester United are enduring a difficult spell.
Meanwhile, Enzo Maresca has made history with a remarkable record, while Brighton produced a spectacular performance in their derby against Crystal Palace.
Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over Nottingham Forest to remain in contention near the top of the table. Chelsea and Liverpool also claimed important wins, while Brighton stole the spotlight with a convincing 5-0 triumph over rivals Crystal Palace, moving up to third place in the standings.
Arsenal Rely on Their Squad Depth
Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to break down Nottingham Forest’s defence, failing to register a single shot on target during the opening 70 minutes of the match.
The Spanish manager responded with a series of substitutions, bringing on Noni Madueke for Eberechi Eze at half-time. Mikel Merino, Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber were introduced later in the game.
Madueke proved to be the difference-maker. In the 80th minute, he cut inside from the left flank and unleashed a powerful effort that took a deflection before finding the back of the net past goalkeeper Matz Sels.
The victory marked Arsenal’s sixth win in their last seven league matches. The Gunners remain second in the standings, just three points behind leaders Manchester City.
“When you look at the quality of our starting XI and the players on the bench, it’s incredible. We know that some players will start games, while others will come on and finish them,” Madueke said.
Manchester United Continue to Disappoint
Manchester United failed to return to winning ways after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Leeds United.
Bryan Mbeumo gave the visitors the lead in the first half, but Dominic Calvert-Lewin restored parity for the hosts, denying Michael Carrick’s side all three points.
United have managed just two wins in 10 matches across all competitions this season. The Old Trafford outfit continue to look disjointed, struggling to find consistency and attacking efficiency, while the positive results of the previous campaign appear increasingly distant.
The Red Devils sit 13th in the table and have recorded their lowest number of wins at this stage of a league campaign since the 1986-87 season.
Carrick’s position does not appear to be under immediate threat, but the pressure is mounting. The next two fixtures, against Chelsea and Liverpool, are expected to provide a significant test for the Manchester side.
Maresca Makes Premier League History with Manchester City
Manchester City continue to win under Enzo Maresca, who has set a remarkable record in Premier League history.
A 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town made Maresca the first manager in Premier League history to win his first seven league matches in charge of a club.
Before him, several managers had managed six consecutive victories at the beginning of their tenures, including Pep Guardiola, who achieved the feat during the 2016-17 season.
Erling Haaland scored twice in the victory over Ipswich, taking his tally to 12 goals across all competitions this season. Meanwhile, Phil Foden netted his first goal of the campaign.
Maresca expressed satisfaction with his players’ progress, emphasising that they were not affected by criticism from outside the club.
“The credit goes to the players. They are not worried about people judging them from the outside,” the Manchester City manager said.
The team’s strong results come at a time when the club remains under scrutiny over alleged financial rule breaches in the Premier League, for which it has been found guilty.
