Atletico Madrid have reached an agreement in principle with Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez over personal terms, ahead of a potential transfer in January or next summer.
According to North Bank Insider, talks between representatives of the Argentine footballer and the Madrid club have been ongoing for some time, while manager Diego Simeone is reportedly very keen to bring him to the Spanish capital.
Martinez’s contract with Manchester United runs until the summer of 2027, with the option of extending it for another year. However, reports suggest that the defender has no intention of signing a new contract or activating the extension clause.
This stance is reportedly also linked to his criticism of Manchester United’s hierarchy following the English club’s defeat against Atletico Madrid.
So far, no agreement has been reached between the two clubs, but Atletico Madrid could consider making a move for him as early as the January transfer window.
Meanwhile, Martinez was recently sent off in the match against Chelsea and will therefore miss Manchester United’s upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa.
