Lamine Yamal Emerges as the Leading Favorite for the 2026 Ballon d’Or

Following the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the final Ballon d’Or power rankings have been released, based on individual performances, overall impact on their teams, and achievements throughout the season.

At the top of the list is Lamine Yamal, who is now considered the leading contender for football’s most prestigious individual award. The Spanish sensation played a pivotal role in Spain’s World Cup triumph, with his outstanding performances proving decisive in securing the top spot in the rankings.

Second place goes to Michael Olise. The French winger enjoyed an exceptional season with Bayern Munich and finished as the World Cup’s leading assist provider. However, France’s elimination in the semi-finals significantly reduced his chances of claiming the top position.

The podium is completed by Harry Kane. The England striker was among the favorites throughout the season, but England’s failure to go all the way in the latter stages of the World Cup negatively affected his standing.

Kylian Mbappé remains in fourth place despite finishing as the top scorer in La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the FIFA World Cup. His lack of major trophies with Real Madrid is considered the main reason why the French star missed out on a place in the top three.

Rounding out the top five is Vitinha, followed by Pedri, Declan Rice, Erling Haaland, Ousmane Dembélé, and Lionel Messi.

Messi returned to the top ten after an outstanding World Cup campaign in which he captained Argentina all the way to the final. Meanwhile, Rodri, who was named the Best Player of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, is ranked 13th, as injuries and a less impressive season with Manchester City affected his overall position in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
