Barcelona are not expected to activate Luis Suárez’s €80 million release clause, as the amount is considered too high by the Catalan club.
The Colombian striker, who plays for Sporting, was one of Barcelona’s alternatives for the attacking department, particularly if their move for Julián Álvarez fails.
However, Sporting have no intention of lowering their asking price and continue to consider Suárez an important part of the club’s project. The Portuguese side has made it clear that the striker will only be allowed to leave if his €80 million release clause is paid.
As a result, Barcelona are moving away from the Suárez option while continuing to search for solutions in attack following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.
