Barcelona have already gained significant value from their signing of Anthony Gordon, just five matches into his career at Camp Nou.
When it was announced in May that football giants Barcelona had agreed a £69.3 million deal with Newcastle United for Gordon, there were plenty of questions surrounding the move.
However, the Englishman has quickly silenced his doubters by making an excellent start at his new club, and that has been reflected in the impressive increase in his transfer value since his move.
Before Gordon’s arrival, it was widely believed that Barcelona would instead sign Marcus Rashford as their new left winger, following the Manchester United star’s relatively successful loan spell at Camp Nou last season.
Rashford’s loan agreement included a clause that would have allowed Barcelona to make the move permanent for €30 million (£35 million), but instead they paid almost twice that amount to sign his England teammate Gordon.
Despite some initial skepticism from supporters, the decision appears to have paid off immediately, with Gordon providing five assists in his first four La Liga appearances before making his Champions League debut for the club as a second-half substitute in the 5-1 victory over Feyenoord.
Gordon’s explosive start at Barcelona has not only made him a fan favorite but has also increased his value by £8 million in just a few months.
According to the latest valuation from the CIES Football Observatory, the England international is now estimated to be worth around €90 million (£77.3 million).
If Gordon continues to perform as he has during his first few weeks at Barcelona, it is natural to expect his value to keep rising throughout the 2026/27 season and beyond.
And with Barcelona having tied him down to a five-year contract, the Spanish giants have plenty of time to maximize Gordon’s value in the years to come.
Although it is safe to say that Barcelona manager Flick has been impressed by Gordon’s start to the season, that does not mean the winger has been completely flawless in his first appearances for the club.
During the impressive Champions League victory over Feyenoord, the winger had several opportunities to score his first goal for his new club, but ultimately failed to contribute to either of the two goals scored after he came on.
“I think as a forward, from his side, you want to score goals,” Flick said after the match.
“He had some chances and missed them. But he made the final pass to set up the goals, and that is also very important.”
However, with Barcelona currently sitting at the top of La Liga, two points clear of second-placed Alavés and three points ahead of historic rivals Real Madrid in third, Flick is unlikely to be too harsh on Gordon for failing to take his chances just yet.
