Kane Targets Ronaldo’s Record: Who Knows How Far He Can Go?

Harry Kane continues to write his name into the history of English football and, following another outstanding performance, has not ruled out the possibility of one day challenging Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for international goals.

The England striker scored twice in the 3–0 victory over the Czech Republic, taking his international tally to 91 goals and simultaneously equaling Peter Shilton’s record for England appearances, with 125 caps.

Kane, the all-time leading scorer for the Three Lions, is not yet thinking about retirement from international football. In fact, he admitted that Ronaldo’s record could become a target if he continues to perform at the highest level.

“We’ll see how far I can go. At the moment, we’re 50-odd goals away, and that’s a long way, but who knows? I’m in great form,” Kane said.

At 41, Cristiano Ronaldo leads the all-time international goalscoring charts, having scored 146 goals for Portugal.

Kane, meanwhile, has made it clear that he has no intention of setting a deadline for his England retirement.

“I’ve said before that some of the players I’ve played with have continued into their late 30s and even into their 40s, playing at the highest level. For me, it’s season by season. As long as I feel I can help the team, I’ll be here,” he said.

The match against the Czech Republic was particularly significant for Kane, as he equaled Peter Shilton’s record for England appearances. The striker made his international debut in 2015 and scored just 79 seconds after coming onto the pitch in an England shirt.

England manager Thomas Tuchel praised his captain’s performance.

“Incredible. He deserves this stage and all these accolades,” Tuchel said.

Kane highlighted self-belief and continuous hard work as two of the main factors behind his success.

“I’ve always had a lot of belief in myself. I’ve always been willing to do perhaps more than others and push myself beyond my limits. I’ve combined the talent I have with a lot of hard work, belief, dedication and discipline,” he said.

The striker, who is enjoying another remarkable season with Bayern Munich, believes he can still improve despite his vast experience.

“I’m coming off my best season ever as a footballer and I’ve started this season just as well as I did the last one. I’m in a good moment, and now for me it’s all about pushing myself and seeing how far I can go,” Kane said.

After leaving Tottenham, where he became the club’s all-time leading scorer, Kane has continued to break records in Germany. With Bayern Munich, he became the fastest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, achieving the milestone in just 98 appearances.

“I’m not going to stop. I’ll keep pushing forward and see where it takes me. Maybe in around 10 years, we’ll see where my ceiling is,” Kane concluded.
