Kobbie Mainoo is expected to return to the Manchester United squad for Saturday’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. However, manager Michael Carrick will still be without four players due to injuries.
The England midfielder has missed United’s last four matches because of a muscular problem. During that period, the team have recorded four defeats and one draw.
However, the 21-year-old returned to full training on Wednesday morning, increasing the likelihood that he will be available for the encounter against the London side.
Mainoo was also among the 22 Manchester United players who were photographed on Friday while travelling by train from Stockport station to the capital.
Among the players who were not seen in the group were Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw.
There have been few updates regarding Shaw’s latest condition, while the defender has missed the team’s last four matches. His most recent appearance came in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham.
His absence has created difficulties at left-back, once again bringing attention to the club’s decision not to sign another player in that position during the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Rashford was an unused substitute in the match against Leeds earlier this month but subsequently missed the defeats against Como and Bournemouth due to a groin problem.
At present, there is no further information about his fitness or an estimated return date.
Patrick Dorgu also remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury sustained during the September international break.
Manchester United’s injury list is completed by Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian striker is expected to remain out of action until at least January due to a lower-leg injury.
