Harry Kane has expressed his emotions after winning the Ballon d’Or, thanking his teammates, Bayern Munich, the England national team and his former club Tottenham for their contributions to his professional journey.
The English striker admitted during his speech in London that he was almost lost for words, describing the moment as something truly special.
“I’m almost lost for words. Being here in London is something really special. It felt as though everything was a good omen for me,” Kane said.
He also had special words for manager Vincent Kompany, wishing him a speedy recovery.
“For Vinnie (Kompany), I know he’s at home, or perhaps still in hospital. I wish him a speedy recovery, and I hope this has given him a little boost of energy,” the England striker said.
Kane emphasised that his time at Bayern Munich had helped him grow not only as a footballer but also as a person and a leader.
“Since joining you, I’ve improved as a player, as a person and as a leader. I’m delighted to be taking this trophy back to Bayern,” he stated.
The striker also remembered his England teammates, describing the past year as a special period, despite not everything going according to expectations.
“We’ve had a special year. It wasn’t a perfect year, but we had plenty of great moments. It was an honour for me to lead you as captain,” Kane stressed.
Finally, he thanked Tottenham, the club where he spent a significant part of his career and laid the foundations for his success.
“Without Tottenham, I probably wouldn’t be where I am today. You gave me the opportunity to live my dream. All the ups and downs along that journey have brought me to this moment,” Kane concluded.
