Recent rumors about the uncertain future of Alisson Becker at Liverpool F.C. had put two Serie A giants, Juventus F.C. and Inter Milan, on alert, as they were closely monitoring the developments and the possibility of signing the goalkeeper as a free agent during the summer.
However, the English club reacted immediately and put an end to any doubts about the Brazilian’s future.
According to reports from The Athletic, the Reds have activated the one-year extension option in the contract of the 33-year-old goalkeeper, extending his deal until 2027.
This means that the former AS Roma goalkeeper will remain at Anfield at least until the end of the 2026–27 season.
The decision does not come as a surprise, since the English club had the advantage of activating this clause and keeping the player for another season.
Alisson has been Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper since his transfer from Roma in 2018 and has been a key figure in the club’s successes, helping them win, among other trophies, the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
Keeping him in the squad for another season guarantees stability, experience, and leadership at an important moment for the team led by Arne Slot.
Meanwhile, the Dutch coach has also been thinking about the future, having signed goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili in the summer of 2024, who is seen as a possible successor to the Brazilian.
For the moment, however, there is no “changing of the guard”: Alisson remains Liverpool’s number one, and the objectives of Inter or Juventus seem to have been postponed for later. ⚽
