Only One Player Had Done It Before Him – Jonathan David Enters the History Books After 96 Years

Canada finally recorded its first-ever victory at the FIFA World Cup, thrashing Qatar 6-0 in Vancouver.

The undisputed star of the night was Jonathan David. The 26-year-old Juventus striker responded in the best possible way after a disappointing performance that had drawn heavy criticism, scoring a hat-trick and writing his name into the history books.

David scored his first World Cup goal with a spectacular volley, while his second came after a quick reaction inside the penalty area. He completed his historic hat-trick with a brilliant run and a composed finish, capping off a memorable evening.

With this three-goal performance, Jonathan David became only the second CONCACAF player to score a hat-trick at the FIFA World Cup. The first—and until now the only one—was American Bert Patenaude in 1930, exactly 96 years ago.

But the records did not end there. By scoring six goals against Qatar, Canada became the first national team from outside Europe and South America to score five or more goals in a single World Cup match.

After opening the tournament with a draw, the Canadians delivered a powerful response and showed that they could be one of the biggest surprises of this World Cup.
