Spain defender Marc Cucurella has revealed that he will bring his international career to an end if La Roja defeat Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.
The 27-year-old, who has been an undisputed starter throughout the tournament, said that after winning UEFA Euro 2024, lifting the World Cup would represent the ultimate achievement in a Spain shirt.
“If we win the World Cup, I’ll call Luis de la Fuente and tell him not to count on me anymore because I’ll retire from the national team. After winning both the European Championship and the World Cup, it simply can’t get any better,” Cucurella told L’Equipe.
The Spanish defender also revealed a special promise involving head coach Luis de la Fuente.
“If we win the World Cup, I’ll get coach Luis de la Fuente’s face tattooed on my bicep,” he told Fox Sports.
Spain and Argentina will face off on Sunday at 9:00 PM at MetLife Stadium in the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.
