Barcelona sporting director Deco has spoken openly about the club’s plans ahead of the summer transfer window, confirming that the Blaugrana management is working simultaneously on several operations to strengthen Hansi Flick’s squad, writes “Barcablaugranes”.
The former Portuguese midfielder admitted that Barcelona have already initiated first contacts with several players and agents, although official negotiations with their respective clubs have not yet entered the final stages.
“We are working. We will bring in some players. We are interested in different profiles and the first contacts have already been established,” Deco declared upon his return to Barcelona after a trip to London.
According to Spanish and English media, one of the names highly appreciated by Barcelona is Joao Pedro.
The Brazilian forward is seen as an ideal option for the future of the attacking department, especially considering that Robert Lewandowski is expected to leave Catalonia.
However, the operation remains complicated. Joao Pedro joined Chelsea only a year ago and the London club do not consider his departure an easy matter.
Nevertheless, Chelsea’s inconsistent season and the fact that the striker was left out of Brazil’s squad for the 2026 World Cup have fueled speculation about a possible exit.
Another major target for Barcelona remains Julian Alvarez.
The Argentine striker is highly admired by both Deco and Hansi Flick, but the price set by Atletico Madrid is considered almost unreachable at the moment.
According to reports, the Madrid club are demanding around €150 million for the World Cup winner.
Moreover, Paris Saint-Germain are also in the race for him.
Deco made it clear that Barcelona’s main priority remains strengthening the attacking department.
The sporting director believes the squad is balanced in defense and midfield, while the attack is the area where one or two important signings may be needed.
Besides a central striker, Barcelona are also monitoring profiles for the left wing.
Names such as Luis Diaz and Nico Williams have been repeatedly mentioned in the Spanish media as possible summer targets.
However, every move Barcelona make will depend on the club’s financial situation and Financial Fair Play regulations.
For this reason, the Catalan management are also working simultaneously on the sale of several players in order to create room in the budget for new signings.
