Roberto Mancini is on the verge of returning as head coach of the Italian national team. The President of the Italian Football Federation, Giovanni Malagò, announced during the Federal Council meeting that the former Italy manager has been selected to take charge of the Azzurri once again.
The decision comes after the dramatic developments of recent days, which included the resignations of Paolo Maldini and Leonardo from Club Italia following the failed candidacy of Andrea Pirlo. The pair stepped down on Monday, just 16 days after being appointed to their respective roles.
For Roberto Mancini, this marks a return to the helm of the Azzurri, having previously managed the Italian national team for five years, from 2018 to 2023. During his first spell, he guided Italy to victory at UEFA Euro 2020, defeating England in the final at Wembley.
Meanwhile, the Federation is continuing its search for a new Technical Director. The name gaining the most momentum is Claudio Ranieri, who is widely regarded as the ideal candidate to bring experience, balance, and stability to Italian football at a crucial stage for the national team.
