Legendary actress Meryl Streep has revealed an intriguing behind-the-scenes story about her return in the sequel to the cult film The Devil Wears Prada 2. During an interview on the Today show, in a conversation alongside her co-stars Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, she admitted that she initially turned down the offer to reprise her iconic role as Miranda Priestly.
According to Streep, although she immediately recognized the strong potential of the project after reading the script, she first decided to say “no.” She explained that the screenplay was so well written that it convinced her the film was destined for success.
However, she later decided to test the studio by requesting a salary twice as high as the original offer. According to her account, the response came quickly and positively, which ultimately convinced her to accept the role.
Streep said that at the time, at the age of 56, she had seriously considered stepping away from acting if the projects offered to her were not challenging and worthwhile enough.
Her portrayal of Miranda Priestly in the original 2006 film became one of the most memorable performances of her career, earning her an Academy Award nomination and marking a new professional milestone.
