Erling Haaland has become an increasingly important figure at Manchester City, particularly since Pep Guardiola’s departure and Enzo Maresca’s arrival. The Citizens made a strong start to the year, but their results have dropped significantly in recent weeks. The Premier League could impose sanctions on the club after finding them guilty of more than 100 financial breaches.
With City’s future still uncertain, the same applies to their top players, especially Haaland. The Norwegian has already scored nine goals in the first nine rounds of the Premier League and is under contract until 2034, but his father, Alf-Inge, has not ruled out the possibility of him leaving the club.
“I think we have to wait for the outcome of the appeal. It could be resolved quickly, although there are fans, rival clubs and, above all, journalists who are targeting City at the moment. So, we simply have to wait and see what the outcome of the appeal will be,” Haaland’s father initially said.
“City believe they have strong evidence to prove their innocence, and I think it is best to wait until a decision is reached. Erling is only thinking about playing as much football as possible and is focused on that. I think it is mainly those of us outside the pitch who think a little more about this situation,” Alf-Inge concluded.
If City are relegated, as they also face the threat of a potential drop to a lower division, Haaland would attract interest from clubs across Europe. He would have his pick of potential destinations, although only a handful of clubs could afford his transfer fee and astronomical salary.
In such a scenario, Real Madrid would be in the strongest position. The Spanish giants have been interested in signing him for some time and have a vacancy in the number nine position.
Alongside Kylian Mbappe, Haaland could form one of the most formidable attacking partnerships of all time.
