Liverpool have revived their interest in Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as the Premier League club prepares to strengthen its midfield ahead of the next transfer window.
According to journalist Pete O’Rourke, the expected return of Julian Ward to Liverpool’s sporting structure has brought Tchouameni back onto the club’s list of potential transfer targets.
Ward is reportedly set to return to a senior sporting role at Anfield and was a long-term admirer of Tchouameni during his previous spell at the club. He had previously explored the possibility of bringing the French midfielder to Liverpool before Tchouameni eventually joined Real Madrid.
However, any potential deal would be extremely difficult to complete. Tchouameni recently signed a contract extension with Real Madrid that will keep him at the Santiago Bernabéu until 2031, putting the Spanish giants in a strong negotiating position.
Liverpool are aware that persuading Real Madrid to part with the 26-year-old would require a substantial financial investment. There is also the question of whether Tchouameni himself would be open to leaving Spain after establishing himself at one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Ward is expected to officially return to Liverpool’s sporting structure in October 2026, and his arrival could have an impact on the club’s transfer strategy. Tchouameni is one of the players he has previously identified as a potential target.
Liverpool are also continuing to explore options to strengthen their midfield. Manager Andoni Iraola has previously emphasised that the club does not want to make rushed decisions in the transfer market, with a long-term approach remaining central to their recruitment strategy.
According to O’Rourke, Liverpool could soon make contact with Real Madrid and Tchouameni’s representatives to assess their position and determine whether there is any possibility of a deal being reached.
