However, Raphinha, who was not included on the list of Ballon d’Or nominees, has made it clear that, in his view, Yamal is the leading favorite.
“For me, Lamine Yamal is the number one candidate to win the Ballon d’Or. He is magical on the pitch, charismatic and has personality. Beyond the goals, assists and trophies, he is a spectacular player. He has proven that both at Barcelona and with the national team,” Raphinha told Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Brazilian also praised the achievements of the 18-year-old with his club and the Spanish national team.
“Lamine is one of the most important players in both teams. For me, there is no doubt about who should win the Ballon d’Or this year. He has trophies, the La Liga title with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain. He has extraordinary quality,” the Barcelona star said.
Raphinha also shared his impressions of Carlo Ancelotti, with whom he is now working with the Brazilian national team.
“Ancelotti has surprised me a lot. I had met him as an opponent in Spain, and he had left a good impression on me. He seemed like a very respected person. When I started working with him in the national team and got to know him better, I realized that he is an extraordinary person. It has been a wonderful surprise,” Raphinha concluded.
