Official: David Alaba Leaves Real Madrid

Following the confirmation of Dani Carvajal’s departure last week, Real Madrid have announced that veteran defender David Alaba will also leave the club after tomorrow’s match against Athletic Club.

“Real Madrid CF and David Alaba have agreed to bring his time as a player at our club to an end at the conclusion of the current season,” the club statement read.

“Real Madrid CF would like to express its gratitude and affection for a player who has been part of a team that has enjoyed one of the most successful eras in our history,” the statement continued.

Alaba joined Real Madrid as a free agent in 2021 after ending his spell with Bayern Munich.

The Austrian international quickly became a leader at the club and played a key role during the successful 2021/22 season, when the team won La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, and the Supercopa de España.

However, injuries significantly affected Alaba’s time at Real Madrid from the following season onward, largely limiting his role on the pitch.

Despite this, he remained an important figure in the dressing room, contributing whenever he was fit and available.

Alaba now bids farewell to “Los Blancos” after making 131 appearances for Real Madrid across five seasons, winning 11 trophies, including two Champions League titles and two La Liga crowns.

As part of the official statement, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez also paid tribute to Alaba, saying:

“David Alaba has earned the affection of all Madrid fans through his commitment, hard work, and for an iconic image on our road to the 14th European Cup, which symbolized the celebration of a victory and is now part of our club’s history.

“Real Madrid CF will always be his home.”

Alaba will say goodbye to the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium tomorrow when Real Madrid face Athletic Club in the final match of the season.
