February 5 is the luckiest day for those who dream of becoming professional footballers – at least, that’s what the legend says.
For many years, SunSport has highlighted this date as the moment when the universe seems to have decided to grant a little extra magic to those blessed with footballing talent. If today is your birthday, you could be part of a five-a-side team featuring players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Carlos Tevez and Gheorghe Hagi.
Some of the well-known footballers celebrating their birthday today include Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Vedran Ćorluka, Adnan Januzaj, Patrick Roberts and Billy Sharp. We’re not sure who would be the goalkeeper in this team, and there aren’t many defenders, but you certainly wouldn’t want to see this group lining up on your local pitch on a regular Thursday evening.
SunSport doesn’t do things by halves, so we decided to find the best possible “birthday” team. However, the process turned out to be longer than expected, so we eventually decided to list the five best players born on each day of the year.
In the end, although the work was exhausting, we’re still curious to see whether anyone can take the “February 5 crown”!
