Barcelona have not given up on signing Julian Alvarez, despite Atletico Madrid repeatedly rejecting every offer submitted for the 26-year-old Argentine forward.
The Catalan club’s management believe the transfer is still possible, but they expect the striker himself to take the next step, reports Klankosova.tv.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barça hope Alvarez will use his media appearances during the FIFA World Cup—possibly as early as Argentina’s match against Austria today—to publicly express his desire for a change of scenery.
If the player and his agent apply public pressure, Atletico Madrid could be forced to reconsider a potential sale.
However, it remains to be seen whether the fee demanded by the Madrid club will be affordable for Barcelona, who have already spent around €80 million on the signing of English forward Anthony Gordon.
