Manchester United are making a major effort to convince Bruno Fernandes to remain at Old Trafford, as the English club expects the captain to receive significant offers from other clubs during 2027.
Fernandes has already begun talks with United officials over a new contract and, so far, his preference has been to continue his career with the English giants. However, there is growing concern within the club that the situation could become considerably more complicated as the Portuguese midfielder approaches the final stages of his current contract.
Fernandes’ contract with Manchester United expires in 2027, although the club has an option to extend it for another season. Despite this, United officials expect major offers for the 32-year-old to arrive much sooner.
Galatasaray were one of the clubs that attempted to sign Fernandes this year, reportedly offering him a salary of around €20 million per season. Al-Hilal also made a serious attempt to convince him last year, while Juventus have recently entered the race.
Fernandes decided to remain in Manchester because he wants to continue competing at the highest level of European football. However, interest from other clubs has shown him the financial and sporting opportunities that could be available to him if he chooses to leave Old Trafford.
Despite his age, Fernandes’ importance to Manchester United remains unquestionable. Since joining the club from Sporting CP in 2020, he has become one of the club’s leading figures and one of its most influential players in recent years.
United know they could face another wave of offers for their captain in 2027, particularly from clubs capable of offering him a highly lucrative financial package as well as an ambitious new sporting project.
For this reason, the Red Devils’ hierarchy want to resolve his future as soon as possible and convince him that continuing his career at Old Trafford is the best option.
A key part of the negotiations is also expected to be Champions League football.
If Manchester United can compete near the top of the Premier League and secure a place in Europe’s elite competition, the club will have much stronger arguments to convince Fernandes to stay and become part of the next phase of the project.
However, the start of this season has been unconvincing, and the pressure on the club to reach an agreement with its captain is only increasing.
Manchester United already know that keeping Fernandes will be one of their biggest priorities before other offers make his decision even more difficult.
