Karim Benzema has revealed the reasons that prompted him to leave Real Madrid, despite still being at the peak of his career. The French striker fondly recalls his time in Madrid, where he arrived as a young talent and left as one of the greatest legends in the club’s history.
“I think I did everything at Madrid. I arrived there as a child and left as a man, with many trophies and the Ballon d’Or. All my dreams came true.”
Benzema explained that at one point he felt he had to make a decision in order to continue performing at the highest level, while at the same time understanding that the team needed to give opportunities to younger talents.
“There came a moment when I had to say that I wanted to remain at the top, at the highest level and as captain. But I also knew that you never know what might happen the following year and that the younger players also needed to play.”
Benzema’s comments come amid the difficulties he is currently experiencing at Al-Hilal, along with reports that he could leave the club in the coming days.
