Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho has commented on Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to retire from the Portugal national team, stressing that the decision must be respected.
Mourinho made it clear that leaving the national team does not mean the end of the Portuguese superstar’s career, as Ronaldo still has goals he wants to achieve in football.
“His decision must be respected. This is not retirement from football; his career is not over,” Mourinho stated.
“Anyone who knows Cristiano knows that he still has goals to achieve in his career,” the Portuguese coach added.
Mourinho also stressed that Ronaldo’s eventual retirement from football should take place under completely different circumstances.
“The only thing I know is that the day he finally retires from football should be different from yesterday,” he concluded.
