Renowned manager Jürgen Klopp held his first training session with the German national team yesterday (Tuesday), and from day one he established order and introduced clear and stricter rules for his players.
Klopp took a short break from coaching after not managing anyone since leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2024, and the opportunity to take charge of the German national team was something he could never have turned down.
Now, at the age of 60, he has the chance to lead his country, but he is also aware that there is a lot of work ahead if he wants to restore Germany to the top of European and world football.
First of all, he introduced strict rules that differ from those implemented by former manager Julian Nagelsmann, who was criticized by the Germans while in charge.
Klopp has introduced four rules that all players must follow. He has banned mobile phones, haircuts at the team hotel, family visits, and being late for dinner.
Point 1 – Punctuality
Under Nagelsmann, players could gradually arrive at the hotel for dinner between 7 and 8 p.m. Under Klopp, all players must be at dinner exactly at the scheduled time, whether that is 7 or 8 p.m., depending on the plan.
The aim is to strengthen the sense of community within the team. The manager wants dinner to become an opportunity for interaction and the exchange of ideas among the players.
Point 2 – No Mobile Phones Before Matches
In the future, players are expected to focus on what is important during their preparations for matches—for example, while warming up in the gym or receiving a massage.
Instead, conversations with teammates at the treatment tables next to them are encouraged.
Point 3 – Haircuts Are Not Allowed at the Team Hotel
Haircuts will no longer be permitted at the team hotel. The idea is simple: if you are going on a work trip, you should get your haircut beforehand, just as any other employee would.
Point 4 – Family Visits to the National Team Camp Are Restricted
Nagelsmann was heavily criticized for allowing players’ families to stay with them at all times during international team gatherings.
Under Klopp, this will only be allowed occasionally during major tournaments. Instead, the team is expected to focus on a common goal and strengthen its unity by staying together at the hotel.
