After Draw with Italy, Zidane: “I’m Disappointed, We Deserved More, But If You Don’t Score…”

“I’m disappointed because we deserved more. We had chances to finish the game, but we failed to take them, and sometimes football is like that.” That was how Zinedine Zidane began his press conference after the Nations League match against Italy, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The France manager received a tremendous reception from the fans in his first home match in charge of Les Bleus, and Zidane made sure to thank them.

“It was emotional. We would have loved to give the stadium and the entire nation a victory, but things didn’t go that way,” Zidane continued, although he was still pleased with his team’s performance.

“Italy played their game,” Zinedine Zidane added. “When you have the chance to score twice, you have to take it, because otherwise these things happen. I’m pleased with what the players did. Now we need to rest and start thinking about the next match.”

Zizou also spoke more specifically about Roberto Mancini’s Italy.

“Did I expect this Italy? This is Italy. They may not play well at times, but they can also play very well. They won in Turkey and played their game against us. They defended well,” Zinedine Zidane said
