Granit Xhaka has reacted to recent reports concerning an issue from his past, confirming that during the COVID-19 pandemic, he had purchased a vaccination certificate.
His statement comes amid reports that the Switzerland captain will not join the Swiss national team’s training camp in Belek, Turkey, while recent reports have focused specifically on the issue surrounding the vaccination certificate.
Xhaka admitted that at the time, he had significant doubts and uncertainty about the COVID-19 vaccine.
“During this emotionally turbulent period, I bought a vaccination confirmation (certificate) instead of seeking answers to my unanswered questions through the proper channels,” Xhaka wrote.
The Swiss international acknowledged that his actions were wrong and apologized for them.
“Today, I clearly see that this was not the right path. It was a mistake. I am sorry for this,” he stated.
Xhaka also made it clear that he is ready to take responsibility and cooperate with the authorities to fully clarify the matter.
“I take responsibility for this decision, submit myself to the clarification of this matter, and will fully cooperate with the competent authorities,” Xhaka concluded.
